Natural Deodorant: Does it Work?

Updated: Feb 2, 2020

I have been really focused on becoming a conscious consumer; and decided to start but cutting down my plastic consumption. The environment is in danger, and as soon as you are aware of how much plastic we are producing and consuming it is really shocking. I will soon be writing more on this topic, however along my journey I have found a life changing deodorant.

Not only do deodorants come in a whole lot of plastic, but they also have a lot of chemicals in them that might not be the greatest to be consuming through our largest organ (the skin). In fact, the underarms are one of the most porous areas of the body, so keeping that in mind we should question what we really want getting in there!

The past 2.5 weeks I started using the Australian brand No Pong and I am truly thrilled with my experience. In my complete honest opinion this natural, plastic free deodorant does the job BETTER than previous deodorants I had been using. Here is my highlights and critical analyses:

No Pong!

In Australia, the word pong basically means a disgusting smell. No pong really blocked my pong (hopefully I used that right). I sweat a lot and I workout a lot which makes me sweat more. Every single use so far I had no foul smells it was honestly crazy since I usually take my shirt off and can definitely smell that sweat! No pong offers a scented option that I wish you could smell through this post since it is my favourite deodorant smell I have ever experiences as well as an unscented option!

No Pit Stains

At my workplace we have navy blue coaching shirts mandatory to wear. The sleeves are very tight and deodorant sticks to the material and shows on the colour very easily. I couldn't believe that with wearing my No Pong there were NO MARKS.

Now, on the topic of being an excessive sweater, actual pit stains (as in dark sweat circles) are also a lifelong problem area for me. This was where I was most nervous since I have heard natural deodorants are less effective and I knew No Pong was not an anti-perspirant. So YES, I still sweat, but I was surprised to find that there was no difference to my anti-perspirants vs. No Pong on the amount of sweat on my clothes. Something I am looking forward to is that wearing natural deodorant can actually help your body adjust to sweat less since your pores aren't being clogged by nasty chemicals anymore!

Environmental Impact

What drew me to the product, lovely ingredients and that cute tin case that can be easily recycled or reused. I am so excited to have taken this step in my sustainable journey!

Also side note: Someone commented on my instagram suggesting how these would be a great travel option when going for minimal baggage!
