Being rested is more than just sleeping or taking a day off work. In fact, there are many aspects to being properly rested. The "wheel of wellness" displays our wellness in seven important categories. These include: Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Financial, Social and Environmental.
You may look at these different areas of wellness and are able to identify immediately where you are thriving and where you might need work. Acknowledging these areas of wellness is important to keep our overall health high as well as are important for goal setting and self awareness.
In a time where our society is almost at a forced rest, I wanted to focus on specifically being RESTED as a whole. Just as there are different parts of being well, there are different ways of being rested. I was recently introduced to an online resource by Saundra Dalton-Smith M.D. : Board-Certified Internist and Award-winning Author, called simple "the Rest Quiz". According to Saundra, there are 7 different types of ways we can be rested. These include:
- Physical
- Emotional
- Spiritual
- Mental
- Social
- Sensory
- Creative
I highly recommend taking this quiz and finding where you may lack rest. I was not surprised that I was least emotional rested, however I was surprised that sensory was a close second. Then it all made sense, I get so easily irritated by extra visual or auditory stimulations. Sometimes when I am in the car I have to ask for the music to be turned off. TV's and large screens are always my enemy, and my pet peeve is loud TV's or loud background music at gatherings. I also found that I was not completely rested in any of these points. Creative and spiritual were very close, but still needed some work. I cannot wait to learn more about how I can allow myself to become more rested, now in a more personalized and rounded way.
Let me know what you do for rest in these areas. Tell me your results if you decide to take the QUIZ !
Reach out either on my contact page or always feel free to DM me on instagram. I would love to discuss more about rest with you.
