What is VIPKid?
VIPKid is an online learning platform that connects teachers in the USA or Canada to students learning english in China. Firstly, o you need to be a licensed teacher? No. Do you need to have a Degree? Yes. Experience in formal OR informal teaching environments (ex. coaching, camp, volunteer, etc.) will help as well!
I began teaching with VIPKid in March as I needed to find remote work while I lived between a few households as I was apartment searching. Then COVID-19 happened and this job became more of a blessing than it already was. I love seeing my students in the morning as they energize my day, and I already have quite a few regulars!
SO if you are considering applying to VIPKid in 2020, I have made a list of pros and cons to help you decide. If you are going to apply, use my referral code and I can assist you through the hiring process!
Pros
- the lessons plans you teach are already made up for you.
- make your own schedule! teach when you want, as much as you want.
- free professional development
- the pay is between 7-10 $ USD per 25 mins ! Canadians that is good news for us!
- Many bonus opportunities (I mean weekly)
- the rewarding feeling of helping teach someone something new!
Cons
- the hours are either very early or very late depending when you open your time slots
- the hiring process is a bit long and annoying if you are doing it with no guidance of someone who is already in (but its worth it!)
- it can sometimes take some time to build up bookings
There is my simple list of VIPKid pros and cons. Honestly, if you make it in and start teaching and dislike it - you do not have to continue teaching, that's the nice thing! You are in complete control of your own schedule, therefor, if you do not open availability slots you will not get booked! I was unsure about VIPKid at first as I felt confused navigating the hiring process on my own. But I am so glad I made it through. Now I start every day doing something I am passionate about and that I am free to make my own schedule for (now that is freedom). It is so exciting when my bookings get filled up and I always look forward to seeing my students.
