Day 7 City Walk Luzern

Waking up in Bellpark Hostel was humid but refreshing. Refreshing as Alex and I were in a private room finally. After sharing with 4 other people we were lucky to snag a private room here for cheaper. Bellpark Hostel has an Asian vibe too it and they served fried rice as their complimentary breakfast. A strange breakfast but can’t complain about free food (as well as it was really good).

We decided to skip the hike today and see the city instead. A strange choice for us but this was the first real city we had been too and we were ready to see some great European architecture. We walked around lake Luzern and viewed the city, even stopped in a few shops.

Later we were challenging ourselves to an obstacle course in a local park when two local children began talking with us. When they discovered we didn’t speak a word of German or Dutch, they had great fun with us. It was interesting to have a genuine experienced trying to communicate with people with very little English! Wild that we all live in the same world but can have communication issues like that. We had been lucky that most of the locals were able to speak enough English to get their point across.

Our stay at Bellpark hostel was very humid but the best service yet.

Day 8 Zurich Lake

We woke up early for our fried rice breakfast in Bellpark. We caught the 9:30 train to Zurich. Arriving in Zurich was probably the first time we saw skyscrapers since we had left. We followed the long canal where locals jumped and swam; as there was no boats. This would be a dream to train swimming in. Finally we made it to Zurich Lake and found a grassy beach area. It was a lovely view, with stairs as a walkway into the water and many big rocks. There was the city in the view as well as the mountains. The water was amazing, not too hard to get in and warm once you were submerged. It felt great to be in the water. I decided to do a few lengths (20 strokes out) of fly and return with breaststroke. We then spent our time relaxing in the sun, until it was time to catch our 4 o’clock train to Innsbruck.

Our first country change. Arriving in Innsbruck the sweetest older lady helped us locate the bus stop and which route to take to our Airbnb. She even walked off the train all the way to the bus stop with us.

Day 9 beautiful old Innsbruck

We woke to our mountain view out our Airbnb window. A short bus to town and we treated ourselves out for a big breakfast. The day went by fast keeping ourselves busy in beautiful Innsbruck. The old colourful buildings mixed with gothic architecture whirled all around us. In the afternoon we took a walking tour and learned so much about the history of the city. It was wild what was happening in so many of the exact same buildings that stand today. One of the most interesting facts about Innsbruck is that it originally was mostly an obstacle between southern and northern trades. However, it slowly developed into a village as they intelligently built a bridge that would cut days off of travellers voyages and charged them to cross. This created a very rich city which induced a lot of development (and under many female influences/empresses)! Innsbruck has an incredible balance between preserving their rich tradition and history as well as being open to modernizing their city where necessary.
