Living in a Bachelor Suite

This September I relocated for the second time to Western Canada. This year, my partner and I decided no more roommates and found an apartment building for ourselves. (Side note: I also NEEDED somewhere with natural light as we lived in a basement last year and it did not do me well).

Up on the seventh floor, we were delightfully surprised with the way we could use our space in our suite. If unfamiliar, a bachelor suite is a 1 room apartment. In other words the only space separate to the main room is the washroom. Since we were unable to view the apartment previous to agreeing to the lease (as we were moving in a week after the lease started), we were relying on the web images and Kyle's awesome cousin as to what the place was going to be like. I was delightfully surprised, in fact I was expecting our bed to be a pull down bed so the fact that our bed is its own piece feels like luxury.

Our building is very new and our room is a clean 400 square feet. It is easy to keep clean but easy to get messy. For example, leave one plate out and suddenly the room feels a mess due to the small space. So far I upkeep tidying during the week and Kyle (my partner) helps do a full room clean every other weekend.

Living in a small space also I feel (and hope) is aiding with my wish to be more minimalistic and environmentally friendly. Since there is not a lot of storage and everything is basically at your reach at a given moment, you become constantly aware of what you own - and what you may not need. In having a small space this means our laundry, dishwasher and garbage spaces are also very small! This really creates awareness of how much you can go through so fast as these things seem to be a constant up-keeping. Hopefully I will see an improvement as I live here longer!

Below I have included some pictures of my place. Descriptions from left to right: (left) the living room/kitchen with window view - (middle) the bedroom and half-wall that separates it from the rest of the space - (right) living space from another angle with more kitchen showing.

The natural light shining into our space, a few plants and candles is enough to make me feel cozy in our new home.

Selfie in the gorgeous bathroom! Also look at that shower nozzle from the roof!

Building bonus: a gym area that is almost always empty! I take great use of the treadmills, bikes, lifting bars, dumbbells, AND CHECK OUT THOSE PULL UP HOLDS! The photo on the right is just outside the gym which is lovely to get a little bit of sun if my workout of the day happened to be indoors!

Needless to say I feel very lucky to live in such a nice suite. I think sizing down to a tiny room is a great move for almost anyone especially in their twenties. It saves costs not only because of its size but on purchases as well, as your space is all ready filled up!

If you have any questions about my bachelor suite living, minimalism or moving (I have done it four times in the past year), be sure to message me!
