My Sustainable Holiday Wishlist

Making my everyday lifestyle more sustainable is a slow step by step process. With the holiday season among us, this has been a great opportunity to brainstorm what to ask for or shop for that is going to be stepping forward for our planet rather than backwards. It's the most wasteful time of the year, but consumers have the control. We can chose what is better for the planet and frankly what is better for us.

Here are a few main items that can get you started:

1. Bamboo toothbrush and floss

Our plastic toothbrushes live for at least 500 years after we are finished with them. A cheap and easy switch is to simply start using bamboo toothbrushes. Another bonus is adding bamboo/silk floss which is also a part of a huge plastic waste.

2. No Pong

No Pong is an Australian designed and Canadian made natural deodorant company. Most deodorants that we use come in chunky plastic containers (again that go to waste and create damage to our earth), and actually contain ingredients that are clogging our pores. No Pong’s deodorant comes in a cute, travel-friendly tin and contain ethical ingredients that really work! I highly recommend trying a natural deodorant as it really does work and is a huge step for the environment and our health. I am a sweaty person and this brand has worked wonderfully.

Shop No Pong here - use code MADISONS10 for 10% off your first purchase.

3. Sustainable Razor

Investing in a steel razor will save you money while saving the environment. Everyone loves an environmental/economic win/win!

4. Reusable Travel Utensils

Especially with the many road trips I have personally experienced so many instances where the only option is to use a single use bowl, fork, spoon, knife… or not eat. Not eating is never a choice for me as I get super dizzy and grumpy very fast so I always end up just using all this plastic with guilt hanging over me. There are two easy solves for these scenarios:

1. Tin Tupperware's

2. Small travel utensil kits

5. Bamboo scrub brush

I personally cannot wait to begin trying this. The goal is to go from body wash and loofah (both extremely wasteful), to unpackaged soap and a scrub brush. Once I have these tools it is going to be such an easy switch and even easier for packing for travel!

Thanks for reading! I hope you have a happy and sustainable holiday!
